M.COM

The post graduate department of commerce of the college offers M.Com program with specialization in Accounting and Finance from the year 2016. The course not only offers subject knowledge but it also exposes the students to the current scenario of business and trade. The M.com department invites Industrialists, Subject Experts and Professionals for the guest sessions and industrial visits are conducted to give a practical insight to the students.

Objectives
    To develop the skills of students in the area of Capital and Financial Markets
    To strengthen the technical skills in the area of Corporate Accounting and Security Analysis
    Motivation for undertaking Employment as Employer or Employee.
    To acquaint the students with International Finance and Business Environment
    Motivation to undertake Research
    To understand Indian Tax System

The M.Com programme of M.E.S college of Arts and Commerce was started under the Department of Commerce of the College in the year 2016 and inaugurated on 20th June 2016 by former HOD and Dean, Department of Commerce, Goa University and Current Registrar of Goa University Prof. Y.V Reddy. The course intake is 30 students. The course offers specialization in the area of Accounting and Finance.The M.Com Programme is co-ordinated by Assoc.Prof. Mrs Rochana V. Kharangate. The first batch 2016-18 passed successfully with 100% results. The department organizes continuous guest sessions delivered by professionals such as CA’s, Entrepreneurs, Academicians and Industry experts. The department conducts weekly newspaper analysis, screening of life budget, sessions on mock trading, sessions on NET/SET coaching, sessions on Business Communication Skills, and Mock Interviews.

The department conducts industrial visits to CIBA to inculcate entrepreneurial skills in students and visit to industries such as Smart Link and Nestle India ltd to give a practical insight to the students about the production assembly line, and inventory management. The department also actively participates in seminars, workshops and intercollegiate events organized by other colleges.

The department conducts annual PTA meetings.

Activities Conducted by the Department

    The M.Com Department organized a guest lecture on entrepreneurship on 29th August 2018 at 10.30 am to 12:00 noon. Mrs. Sneha Bhandare owner and Ceo of Nirvana Arts was the resource person. She shared her experience of being entrepreneur, the challenges faced and the future plans. She also encourage students to be job creators rather than job seekers.
    The M.com Department organized a guest lecture on “IFRS Reporting and Accounting Standard Compliance” on 11th August 2018 at 9:00 am to 10:30 am by CA SatyaPrakash Kamath. He gave a brief introduction about IASB (International Accounting Standards Board), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards), IAS (International Accounting Standards) ,SIC, IFRIC , GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), Ind –AS (Indian Accounting Standards),Convergence of Indian Accounting standards with the global accounting standards and the phases of IFRS adaptability in India by the companies.
    The M.Com department organized a session on “analysis of Data using Econometrics Models” on 25th and 26th July 2018 using Gretl and EVIEWS software. The resource person for the session was Dr. Vishal Chari, Department of Economics, Shree Damodar College of Commerrce and Economics. It was a practical session on using the tools for data analysis
    The M.Com Department organized an Industrial visit on 6th October 2018 to Nestle India Ltd. The students were given a glimpse of the production department, assembly line of products and quality control section at Nestle India Ltd
    The M.Com Department conducted a State level Seminar Sanshodhan - “Factors Influencing Investment Opportunities in India” for Post Graduate students of Commerce of all affiliated colleges of Goa University on 11th December 2018. Six colleges participated for the event wherein 16 papers were presented and a total of 25 participants from other colleges. Dr. Sanjay Dessai Pricnicpal of CES College was the chief guest for the Inaugral Function and resource person who spoke extensively on the various factors influencing investment opportunities in India. The technical session I involved paper presentation for which the moderator was Asst Prof. Veeraj Mahatme, BBA Dept of M.E.S College of Arts & Commerce. Dr Manoj Kamat Principal of Shree Malikaarjun College was the resource person for the technical session II and spoke on Ease of doing Business in India He was also the chief guest for the valedictory function.
    Mr. Vijay Lamani, Ms Clency Faria, Ms Aswathy Kp students of M.Com Part I presented a paper at Government College of Khandola on the topic “ Challenges of Entrepreneurship and its Coping Strategies” on 25th January 2019.
    The M.Com Department organized a guest lecture on “ Pricing and Valuation of Futures” in the subject of Derivatives Markets on 23rd February 2018 from 9:30 to 1:30 pm by Dr. SriRam Assistant Professor from Department of Commerce, Goa University. The session included theoretical as well practical study.
    The M.Com Department organized a session on Business Communication Skills on 9th March 2018 by Ms. Swetha Pinto. She is a soft skills trainer. The session gave the students an idea about the need, types of communication. She also stressed about the ways on how to communicate.
    The M.Com Department conducted a Mock Interview session on 9th March 2018 by Ms. Swetha Pinto for the M.Com Part II students. She guided the students on how to frame a curriculum vitae.
For M.Com/M.A. in English Semester I & II (in First year): A student seeking admission should duly fill in the prescribed form and meet the Principal / Vice Principal accompanied by the parent / guardian with the following documents and submit the same to the office:

Project Report and Evaluation Summer Training:
    Every student has to undergo 4 weeks (1st May to 30th May) summer training in industrial organisation/commercial/finance and investment companies/professional firms/ small and medium enterprises to gain hands on experience at the end of semester II. At the end of the summer training students will be required to produce a certificate of experience for duration of 4 weeks to become eligible for admission to the second year M.Com course
Dissertation:
    As a part of M.Com Programme a COO4D Dissertation carrying 8 credits is offered during the third and fourth semester under OA- 18 which is optional.

    This course aim at giving a comprehensive understanding of capital market operations in terms on structure, trading and settlement procedures, instruments, processes and related components as also emerging challenges in the area.

    This course aims at strengthening the technical skills of students in the area of corporate accounting and enhancing their knowledge on contemporary issues and developments in the area.

    SEMESTER II
    COC201 International Financial Management
    To acquaint the students with International Finance environment and the channels of International financial flows, and expose them with different sources of international financing.
    COC202 Management of Financial Services
    This course aims at providing a comprehensive knowledge on various financial services and the industry with the major focus on Mutual funds and depository services.
    COC203 Portfolio Management
    This course aims at providing the students a comprehensive introduction to the areas of security analysis and portfolio management and equipping them with advanced tools and techniques for making profitable investment decisions
    COC204 Research Methodology
    This course is designed to motivate the students in the field of research and enable them to develop the methodology for research work.

    COO3A1 Corporate Tax Planning and Management
    The course aims at providing the students a comprehensive introduction to Income Tax so as to enable them in computing income from different sources and also helps them in understanding the concept and importance of corporate tax planning.

    Students will be able to learn the latest developments in the area of Cost Management and will be familiarized with practical applications of the latest tolls and techniques used for controlling cost.

SEMESTER IV COO4A1 Indirect Taxes To gain expert knowledge of the principles of the indirect tax laws and the relevant rules and principle emerging from leading cases.
    COO4A2 Derivatives Market
    This course aims at providing an in-depth understanding of derivatives markets in terms of concepts, structure, instruments and trading strategies for profit and risk management.
    COO4A3 International Financial Management
