Counselling Cell



Ms. Cedila Gomes, as Chairperson, Ms Fatima Gomes and Ms Pooja Parab as members conducted the following activities for the academic year 2016-17.



MES College of Arts and Commerce Zuarinagar Vasco had organized a session on “Say No To Substance Abuse” on 22nd March 2017. The resource person was Mr.Paul Rebello and his team from Kripa Foundation Anjuna. He informed the students about types of drugs, Ill effects of it on youth, signs and symptoms of drugs/alcohol abuse, reasons for people involving in drugs and alcohol abuse,. The session ended with the slogan “Just say no substance abuse and be healthy”.


Photography competition was held on theme “Say No Substance Abuse” organized by counselor Ms. Pooja Parab. The best three participants were awarded cash prizes during this occasion. Vice Principal Prof.V.V.Sail welcomed the resource person and highlighted the need for such an important session and motivated the students to grab the benefits out of it. Total of around eighty students and Psychology department HOD Ms.Freeda C. Pereira, Asst Prof.Cedila Gomes, Asst Prof Ms. Fatima Gomes and counselor Ms.Pooja Parab were present. Ms. Freda C. Pereira thanked the resource person from Kripa Foundation and congratulated the participants of photography competition that had great impact on students mindset.


1st prize was awarded to Mr. Davis Benjamin(TYBA), Second prize was secured by Mr.Rajat Narvekar (FYBcom)and Ms.Swati Roy (TYBA) secured third place.


Session on Control Mind

On 8th March 2017 Ms Pooja P Parab (counselor) organized a session on Control Mind, the resource person was Prof.Vishwanath Swar. First year and second year BBA students attended the session. The student’s participant’s response was very good. The resource person gave practical sessions to the students and the students gave positive feedback.



2nd December 2016 was observed as AIDS day by counseling cell of MES College Zuarinagar Vasco. Mr. Peter Borges was the resource person on this occasion. He is the President of Human Touch (NGO) which is working with people living with HIV & SUBSTANCE ABUSE, secretary of Positive People (NGO) and also he is working with United Nation for youth development.

In his session on awareness on AIDS & STI was done through videos and other visual media. He shared the practical experiences on working with people living with HIV and substance abuse. The program was witnessed by large number of students. Psychology department in charge Mrs. Freda c. Pereira, Mrs. Cedila Gomes (Chairperson) and Mrs. Fatima Gomes (member of counseling cell), Jessy Coutinho (faculty of sociology) and Favita Dias (faculty of sociology) were present for this program. This program was coordinated by Ms.Pooja P. Parab the counselor of MES College.    



A  Poster Competition was held on the theme ‘A Healthy Body- A Healthy Mind’ on the 11th of January 2017.

The 12 best posters were used to create M.E.S College Calendar for 2016-17.

The M.E.S College Calendar 2017 was released on the 16th of February 2017 at the hands of the Principal of the College, Dr. R.B Patil in the presence of Dr. Ranjana Ferrao, an assistant Professor at the V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar.  

First Place-Sheba Vannery (F.Y.B.COM ‘C’), Second Place- Freda D’Souza (T.Y.B.A) and third place -Alfiya Khan and Akshanda Rane (T.Y.B.COM ‘A’).  




A ‘Personality Development’ was organized for the students of the college on the 5th of August 2016. Ms. Pooja P. Parab, the Counselor of the college was the resource person for the workshop.




A Talk on 'Adolescent Relationships' was organised by the Counselling Cell on 25th August 2016. Dr Ira Almeida (Senior Peadiatirican at Hospicio Hospital, Margao) was the resource person.
