·       TALK ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Department of Psychology organized a session on “Say No To Substance Abuse” on 22nd March 2017. The resource person was Mr. Paul Rebello and his team from Kripa Foundation Anjuna.  

·       PSYCHOBUZZ 

Department of Psychology organized its 2nd edition of Psychobuzz.  This event was conducted in collaboration  with the Alumni Association of MES College

·       HEALTH TALK

A Health Talk titled ‘Eating your way to a healthy lifestyle’ by Ms. Sheryl Afonso e D’Souza, Director of YMCA, Panaji was organized by the Department of Psychology on 26th August, 2016. 

·       WORKSHOP ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY 

A workshop on ‘Research Methodology’ for the final year B. A. students by Dr. Vijay Viegas, Professor of Post Graduate Department of Psychology of St. Xavier’s college, Mapusa was organized by Department of Psychology.

·       INAUGURAL OF PSYCHOLOGY CLUB AND DIPLOMA COURSE IN COUNSELLING TECHNIQUES

Dr. Mahesh Pai, officiating Principal of Goa College of Home Science inaugurated the Psychology Club  and Diploma Course in Counselling Techniques on the  13th of July 2016. Ms. Cedila Gomes is the Coordinator of the Diploma Course in Counselling Techniques. 34 students from arts and commerce stream enrolled for this academic year. The unique feature of the course was the internship program. Ms Fatima Gomes is the coordinator of the Psychology Club.

·       VISIT TO DISHA SCHOOL

The students of the Diploma Course in Counselling Techniques visited Disha Special School in Panjim on 11th August, 2016. Ms. Lyssandra Fernandes, the Clinical Psychologist of Disha Vocational Centre explained the working of the Centre to the students.

·       MES COLLEGE JOINS HANDS WITH SANGATH

M.E.S. College of Arts & Commerce, Zuarinagar has collaborated with Sangath, a non-governmental, not-for-profit to provide appropriate physical, psychological and social therapies. A team led by Ms. Arpita Anand, a clinical psychologist accompanied by two colleagues addressed the first year BA/ BCOM students on 16th June, 2016 to create awareness about mental health issues of adolescents and the need to seek help in times of distress. 

·       SOCIOLOGY STUDY CIRCLE HOLDS INTER-COLLEGIATE SOCIO-EXPRESSIONS

The Sociology Study Circle held their annual inter-collegiate event Socio-Expressions on 26th August, 2016. Thirteen colleges participated in the event. 

·       INAUGURATION OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE SOCIOLOGY STUDY CIRCLE

The inauguration of the activities of the Sociology Study Circle was held on 08th July, 2016 at the M. S. Kamat Seminar Hall at the hands of the chief guest Fr. Fredrick Rodrigues, Principal of Fr. Agnel College, Pilar. 

·       MES COLLEGE SHINES IN THE STATE ATHLETIC MEET

Mr. Suraj Bind  won a Gold medal in 5000m &Silver medal in 4X100m Relay, Ms. Pranita Korgaonkar won a Gold medal in Discus, Ms. Shweta Suryavanshi won a Gold medal in 100m, Mr. Paritosh Dhali won Silver medal in Shot put & Bronze medal in Discus Throw, Ms. Sweeny Rodrigues won a Bronze medal in 100m, Mr. Tejas Gosawi won a Bronze medal in 100m & Silver in 4X100m Relay, Mr. Aslam Sheikh won a Silver medal in 4X100m Relay and Mr. Shivraj Lamani won a Silver medal in 4X100m Relay.

· VALUE EDUCATION CELL

      

The Value Education Cell with Shri B.V Kolekar as it’s Chairperson, Dr Sandhya Bhandare, Ms. Cedila Gomes and Mr Yaseer Hussain as it’s members organized  three talks during the academic year 2016-17. 

The first talk was on ‘Importance of Value Education’ for students of the college held on the 29th of August 2016 with ex- Principal of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa as the resource person for the workshop.  

The second talk was on ‘Peace And Humanity’ held on 28th September 2016. The guest speaker was Mr. Asif Hussain, a businessman and social activist from Vasco.                                                 

The third talk was on  ‘ Life Values’ held on  13th January, 2017. The speaker was Swadhhyayee Shri Ashok H Parab.

 

·       INTER-CLASS RANGOLI COMPETITION

An interclass rangoli competition was organised by the Women’s Cell (Jyoti) on 3rd September, 2016. The first prize was won by Estrelia Coutinho and Rebuka Karu of B.A. Semester V, second prize was won by Rakshanda Chari and Kajal Redkar of B. Com. Semester III and the third prize was won by Maithili Kalangutkar and Akshata Manjrekar of B.Com Semester III.

·       MES COLLEGE HONOURS TOPPERS

The management and staff of MES College felicitated 24 B. A. and B. Com. toppers on 23rd July, 2016 at the hands of Dr. D.B. Arolkar, Principal of DM’s College of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management Studies & Technology, Assagao, Bardez-Goa.

 

 

·       MES COLLEGE INAUGURATES NEW HEALTH CENTRE

The Health Centre of MES College was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Sushama Mirashi on 4th August, 2016.

·       MES COLLEGE OF ARTS & COMMERCE CELEBRATES KRISHNA JANMASHTAMI

The College Council of MES College organised a "Dahi Handi" event to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna popularly known as Krishna Janmashtami.

·       INAUGURATION OF M.COM COURSE

M.E.S College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar inaugurated the Post Graduate programme in Commerce i.e. M.Com. course at the hands of Prof. Y.V. Reddy, Registrar of Goa University on 20th June, 2016.

·       MES COLLEGE WELCOMES NEW STUDENTS WITH AN     ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

The staff and management of MES College welcomed the newly admitted B. A./B. Com. students for the academic year 2016-17 by conducting an Orientation Programme. 

·       MES COLLEGE HOLDS PTA EXECUTIVE MEETING

MES College conducted a Parents Teachers’ Association executive committee meeting on 3rdSeptember, 2016 to discuss  the developmental activities of the college for the benefit of students. The executive committee members present for the meeting were former president of PTA Mr. Elson Sequeira, Vice-President Mr. Peter D'Souza, Principal Dr R. B. Patil, Vice Principal Mr. V. V. Sail,  PTA Secretary Dr. Cidalia Bodade, Mr. Jaymohan, Joint Secretary Ms. Sanchiliana Faria and Ms. Theresa were present for the meeting. PTA also nominated its new president was Mr. B. S. Rao on the occasion.

·       MES FELICITATES FACULTY MEMBERS FOR THEIR PERFORMANCE

About 17 teachers were felicitated by presenting a bouquet of flowers and a memento, at the hands of Dr. Marian Pinheiro, former Principal of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law for excelling in various aspects of teaching such as securing 100 percent result at the Third Year B.A. and B.Com. examination, completing their Ph. D research, paper presentation at the national and international seminars, winning various awards, undertaking major and minor research projects and also for publishing their books.

·       MES COLLEGE COLLABORATES WITH TISS MUMBAI TO OFFER INNOVATIVE COURSES 

MES College has entered into collaboration with the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai to offer post-graduate diploma programmes in HR & Administration and Sales & Marketing, Bachelor's Degree, certificate courses, short-term courses/Workshops corporate training.

  • The Psychology Club  organized a unique photography competition on the theme, ‘Discover Your Inner Child'. Miss Snaha Ganachari from SYBA bagged the prize. It also screened the movies ‘My sisters keeper’ on cancer awareness and ‘Inside out’ on understanding emotions for the students. 
  • An International Stress Management workshop was organized by the Psychology Department from the 4th to 6th October 2016. Dr. B. Udaya Kumar Reddy, founder of International Stress Management Association India was the resource person.  
  • COLLABORATION WITH COOJ MENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION

    Faculty of the Department of Psychology participated in the Goa Can Forum organized by Rolland Martins and Dr.Peter Director of COOJ. Students attended Mind Ki Baat  a public programme organized by COOJ.

     

    ·      GUEST LECTURE ON IMPACT OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ON THE FAMILY: ISSUES AND INTERVENTIONS:

    Department of Psychology invited Dr. Ranjana Ferrao, an assistant Professor at the V.M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar to address the students on 'Impact of Domestic Violence on the Family: Issues and Interventions' on the 11th of February 2017.

    ·   VALEDICTORY PROGRAMME OF THE DIPLOMA COURSE IN COUNSELLING TECHNIQUES :

    The  Valedictory Programme of the ‘Diploma Course in Counselling Techniques’ was held on 30th March 2017. This course was introduced as an innovative skill based job oriented add on course,  of one year duration and included internship at COOJ Mental Health Foundation, Presentation Society and   ARZ , Vasco. Dr. Fr. Clifford Castelino the chief guest awarded the certificates.
